_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: Nickel is a heavy metal present in industrial effluents that causes environmental degration. The removal of this, metal by chemical process is not feasible. Biosorption is an alternative method for such. In this study, nickel bhiosorption by Anabaena laxa and Nostoc commune was given attention. Nickel sorption rate, growth rate and morphological changes were noted , Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and UV-VIS Spectrophotometer were used to obtain data for sorption rate and growtyh rate, respectively. The results showed decrease in the amount of nickel present in the treated cultures. Growth was continuous. It was not inhibited by exposing the organisms to nickel. Morphological changes included chlorosis, deformation of cells, and inequality in the cell sizes. Overall, Anabaena laxa and Nostoc commune may be used in bisorption. _u |
