_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to determine the adsorption parameters of the produced activated carbon from breadfruit peels activated by sulfuric acid on zinc and copper ions. The activated carbon was produced by carbonization and activation of breadfruit pericarp using sulfuric acid. The produced activated carbon was then characterized using Fourier-transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy and iodine number to determine its functional groups, surface morphology, and the degree of the micropore surface area. Then, the activated carbon had the isotherm and kinetic models modeling. The resulting activated carfbon had the isotherm and kinetic models modeling. The resulting activated carbon had a 51% yield from the mass of the breadfruit pericarp. The results of the characterization are that the activated carbon has sulfone, sulfide, carboxyl, methyl, and hydroxyl groups on its surface; the activated carbon has pores which lends to a larger surface area; the result of the iodine number is 343.52 mg.g. The isotherm and kinetic models that fit the activated carbon are: Langmuir isotherm for the two parameter isotherms, Redlich-Peterson isotherm for the three parameter isotherms, and Pseudo-second Order kinetics for copper; and Freundlich osotherm for the two parameter isotherms, Sips isotherm for the three parameter isotherms, and Pseudo-second order kinetics for zinc. The parameter for these isotherm and kinetics models are: adsorption of copper (II): Langmuir: qm=270.3mg/g, and b=0.1028; Redlich-Peterson: qm=107.5 mg/g, ar=2.1628, and g=0.8235; pseudo-second order: k2=0.0010 and for the adsorption of zinc (II): Freundlich: Kr=1.5567 (mg/g) (dm3/g), and n=2.1395g/L; Sips; qm=52.9101 mg/g, as=0.0510, amd n=165; pseudo-second order: k2=0.0015. _u |
