_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: The study aims to measure the level of social comparison and interaction anxiety as it correlates to social media usage and test if there are significant relationships among the three (3) variables. The respondents of this study came from Florentino Torres High School, particularly Grade 10 students ranging from 14 to 17 years of age. A quantitative correlational method was used in this research study. A total of 303 respondents in this study were all qualified based on the given criteria. The researchers utilized three (3) scales to measure the variables: the Social Comparison Scale (SCS), the Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (SIAS), and the Social Networking Usage Questionnaire (SNUQ). Descriptive statistics were employed, particularly the mean and standard deviation, to interpret the level of social comparison, interaction anxiety, and social media usage of the respondents. Inferential statistics, specifying the Pearson Correlation Coefficient, were utilized to measure the correlation among all three (3) variables. The findings suggest that respondents had a moderate level on all dimensions of social comparison, indicating that they tend to compare themselves to others, but not positively. Traditional social anxiety had a high percentage among the respondents. As per social media usage, the respondents most likely engage for their academics and entertainment, showing its prevalence in the younger generations. There were significant relationships found between the following variables: Social Comparison (Group Fit, Social Rank, and Attractiveness) and Interaction Anxiety; Social Comparison (Group Fit, Social Rank, and Attractiveness) and Traditional Social Anxiety; Social Comparison (Social Rank and Attractiveness) and Social Media Usage, to which psychosocial programs were proposed namely Good Interactions, Better Relations: A Psychosocial Program and Healthy Social Media Usage Symposium. _u |
