_aABSTRACT : Textbooks are of the key mediums in translating knowledge to a wide range of audience in an academe; hence, the need for a better emphasis on the importance of textbooks being employed at schools. In certain cases, however, students find it troublesome having another reference when the prescribed textbook does not seem to be appropriate. This thesis therefore, aims to identify which medium used by Bachelor of Science in Accountancy students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila is more readable: local accounting textbook of foreign accounting textbooks. It also intends to determine whether there is a significant relationship between the readability of the textbooks and the factors affecting it. This thesis employed both descriptive and experimental research approaches. Descriptive method was employed to determine the level agreement of the readers regarding the factors that affect the readability of the text. All factors were rated using the Likert scale. Experimental method was adopted to determine whether books written by local authors are more readable than books written by foreign authors, and vice versa. Sample size was computed using Slovin's formula and respondents were chosen through convenience sampling. The result of the study reveals that in terms of readability, textbooks written by local authors are more readable than foreign textbooks. Also, the researchers found that certain factors affecting readability tend to be significantly related to readability tend to be significantly related to readability of the textbooks. The researchers therefore conclude and recommend the use of textbooks written by local authors.
