_aABSTRACT: Many researchers have found that reading comprehension contributes a lot to the success of a person. It increases the chance of employment among applicants (NRTAC, 2010). The alternative Learning System has been established as an educational program designed to take care of the educational needs of those who have had difficulties in going to a formal school, moreover, this program has been going on for years to abate illiteracy and promote functional literacy among the larger populace. The program is designed to give the underpriviledge people a chance to further improve their quality of life through meaningful education-that defines the quality of life and the excellence of Filipinos. Thus, better reading comprehension offered by ALS contributes to the success of an individual that will surely benefit the students. The study aims to determine the learning styles and English reading comprehension of Alternative Learning System students of Don Bosco Youth Center Rondo, Manila and their implications to the ALS program. Specifically, this study aims to answer the following: 1. What are the learning styles of the respondents? 2. What is the performance level in reading comprehension of the respondents in English? 3. What are the implications of the findings to the Alternative Learning System Program? This study applied the descriptive method of research to determine the learning styles; level of reading comprehension of the respondents and their implications to the ALS program. A modified survey questionnaire was administered in Don Bosco Youth Center Manila to a total of 30 random by selected respondents. The relevant observation and interviews supplemented the data. The statistical tools used in the administered questionnaires employed the mean, frequency and ranking. The calculated values were interpreted and ranked with the standard criteria. Based on the salient finding derived from this study, the following conclusions were made: 1. Majority (53.33%) of the ALS students of Don Bosco Youth Center Manila were auditory learners. Although, some were visual learners while a few respondents were kinaesthetic learners. 2. In terms of comprehension, majority of the respondents are categorized as both below average and high average performers. However, it is unclear whether they have a high level or low level of comprehension. 3. Whether, the ALS students are kinaesthetic, auditory or visual, the teachers say that shaping their lessons and activities based on the preferences of the students contributes a lot to the quality and speed of learning in the institution.
