_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: This study was done to determine the absorbency capacity of kaong powder. This was done through adsorption isotherm and adsorption kinetics. Solutions of known concentrations were prepared and kaong powder was added to the solutions. For adsorption isotherm, solutions with concentrations of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21,24, 27 and 30 ppm were used.Concentrations of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 ppm were prepared for adsorption kinetics. The kaong was first sun-dried until it was ready for powdering. After powdering, fifty percent of the samples were treated with 85% EDTA solution. The, the samples were added to solutions of known concentration. After that, the samples were analysed using AAS to determine changes in concentration. Drops of 1:1 nitric acid were also added to the samples to prevent precipitation of the metals. Then, the data was treated statistically to determine significant differences. There were varying results that were obtained from the study. The results varied with different concentrations. The treatment of EDTA to the samples also had an effect on the results. In adsorption isotherm, there was greater absorbency in smaller concentrations than the larger ones. The samples treated with EDTA showed more efficiency than non-EDTA samples. In adsorption kinetics, there was also greater absorbency in smaller concentrations. It was also found out that there was greater absorbency as more time elapsed after addition of the kaong powder to the samples of known concentrations. The results were still better with the samples that were treated with EDTA. _u |
