_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: This study was conducted to determine the antifungal potential of Anuang (Kyllinga monocephala Rottb.) rhizome and roots crude extract against Trichophyton rubrum. The antifungal potential of Anuang (Kyllinga monocephala) rhrizome and roots crude extract was screened using Paper Disc Diffusion, a qualitative assay in which presence of zones of inhibition were noted. On the other hand, the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration, a quantitative assay using two fold serial dillution was determined by visually examining the wells. To confirm the results of the serial dilution method, the contents of the potential Minimum Inhibitory Concentration wells were streaked on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar plates where Minimum Fungicidal Concentration were observed. The crude extract of Anuang did not exhibited an antifungal activity against T. rubrum. No zone of inhibition were observed after the incubation period, therefore the test organism has shown resistance to antifungal agents of the plant extract. Then, the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of the test plant, Anuang, was exhibited at 1000 mg/ml concentration while the positive control (Piper betle) at 31.3 mg/ml concentration. So, the positive control exhibited a higher antigungal activity than the test plant. Hence, the MFC revealed that the presumptive MICs were accurate through the streaked SDA plates. Thus, it can be explained that the positive control is still better at inhibiting fungal growth than the tested plant extract. _u |
