_aABSTRACT: This study focused on the identification and prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites among children aged 2 - 5 of Barangay 407 and Barangay 409, Zone 42 in Sampaloc Manila. A total of 91 stool samples were subjected to the Kato Katz method, Formalin - ether concentration technique and Harada Mori culture method. Stool examination showed eggs of Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura. Prevalence of parasitic infection was higher among the children of Barangay 409 having 58.33% while Barangay 407 was found to exhibit 34.88% prevalence. Test on two proportions was used to determine the difference between the prevalence of parasitic infections in the two barangays. The study also determined the risk factors associated with the parasitic infections using Chi - Square test for Association. It was found that among the risk factors given, the nail biting habit was associated with acquiring parasitic infections. Other risk factors such as age, sex, walking barefooted, playing in floods when raining, water source and washing of hands before meals were at higher risk yet were not associated on having parasitic infections. Their differences were not significant at all.
