_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: Identification of pathogenic bacteria present on scrap meat loaf sold in Blumentritt and Quiapo public market from October to November 2007 was the focus of the study. Three samples from each staff were bought randomly from two stalls in both markets. Serial Dilution was done followed by MPN; isolated bacteria from dilution plate and EMB plate underwent several biochemical tests such as Catalase Test, Starch Hydrolysis Test, TSI test, Methyl Red Test, Indole test, Motility Test, Voges-Proskauer Test, Citrate Test and Urea Test. Differential media such as MSA, EMB, SS, and MacConkey were used for a much accurate identification. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA was used to differentiate bacterial growth on the sample from both markets. Based on the test results, Escherichia coli, Ehterobacter, Klebsiella, Salmonella and Staphylococcus were identified. EMB plate of MPN shown that Escherichia coli appeared to be the most abundant bacteria. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA showed that there is no significant difference between the abundance of bacteria from both markets. _u |
