_aINTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY A study by Stephen Sellner (2023). There is an ongoing debate in the ever-evolving landscape of commerce: the allure of the digital shopping cart versus the tactile experience of a physical store. With regard to the decision-making process when starting a business, specifically whether to use physical or online stores. Given the rapid change in consumer behavior and the changing environment of commerce, it is imperative for academic and practical reasons to comprehend students' inclinations in this sector. Given that operations management students will likely make future decisions in the corporate world, this study acknowledges the importance of their perspectives. Examining their preferences may yield insightful data for business owners and decision- makers, assisting them in modifying plans to suit the tastes of the next generation. Individuals who start on their entrepreneurial journeys make essential decisions in the continually evolving world of business management and entrepreneurship. The study by Chen et al. (2019) on the preferences of business students in adopting online platforms for entrepreneurship contributes to the broader discussion on how educational backgrounds influence entrepreneurial decisions. The choice of the business establishing platform is crucial to this decision-making process, which has seen significant changes in recent years with the development of e-commerce and the digital marketplace. A study by Smith and Johnson (2020) emphasizes the increasing trend of online shopping. citing convenience, accessibility, and a broader product range as significant contributors to the shift. This shift is not confined to Western markets, emerging economies like the Philippines are experiencing a parallel evolution in consumer preferences, influencing entrepreneurial decisions (Gomez et al., 2019). With the rise of e-commerce, businesses can now operate more conveniently and allow customers to shop from the comfort of their homes. However, physical stores remain essential to the retail industry because they provide a more personalized shopping experience and let customers inspect products in person before purchasing. Given the growing trend of online shopping, it is critical to comprehend customer preferences, especially for those pursuing operations management degrees and potential future entrepreneurs. This study compares the preferences of operations management students at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila between using physical and online stores to start a business. Through an analysis of the benefits and drawbacks of each choice, this research can offer insightful information to aspiring business owners and contribute to the development of business plans in the changing retail industry.
