_aABSTRACT: This dissertation was conducted with the purpose of analyzing the different physical education programs of selected eight (8) state colleges and universities and private institutions in Metro Manila. Analyses focused on purposes and objectives, instruction, faculty, library, physical plants and facilities, student personnel services and social orientation and community involvement. The descriptive-analytical type of research was used whereby 508 respondents were involved. Two (2) sets of questionnaires, one for the administrators and faculty, and another for the students, using Likert-type questionnaire of the Federation of Accrediting Agencies in the Philippines (FAAP) with modifications to suit the study. The questions which were open-ended focused on the analysis of the input, process and output to determine the status of an institution. Of the 508 respondents, 22 were administrators which included the physical education deans, directors, coordinators, and chairmen, 56 physical education faculty, full-time and part-time as well, and 430 third and fourth year students enrolled during the second semester, School Year 1998-1999. All third and fourth year students who were present during the distribution of the questionnaire were included as respondents. They were selected in favor of the lower years because they had the necessary experience to critically evaluate the physical education program of their respective schools. The faculty were those who only taught in the professional physical education program. With regard to the findings, questions on purposes and objectives obtained a rating of 4.43 from the state colleges and universities and 4.03 from the private institutions which mean Very Good and are functioning very satisfactorily, those on instruction, 4.20 and 4.07 from the state colleges and universities and private institutions respectively, meaning Very Good and are functioning very satisfactorily, on faculty, 4.42 and 4.30 or Very Good. Despite its Very Good results in these three aspects, there is a need to improve on areas such as: balanced program activities, programmed instructional materials most especially on audio-visual materials, and student research among others on instruction. Faculty assessment on fringe benefits, salary rates and faculty development programs should also be looked into. On libraries, physical plant, equipment, and facilities, all of the institutions studied with the exemption of some, still need improvement, such as classrooms do not have the right ventilation and lighting, lack of indoor and outdoor play areas, lack of equipment and supplies, absence of drinking fountains, insufficient water supply, but most of all, gymnasium facilities to accommodate the activities. On student personnel services, the main problem is poor implementation of financial assistance even for the qualified students because of limited resources. On social orientation and community involvement, there seems to be no problem for administrators and faculty alike, maintain development projects, and offer their resources to the community. With the findings from this study, the researcher believes that there is a need for a Unified Physical Education Curriculum for Teacher - Training Institutions in Metro Manila; hence, her proposal which she hopes could be adopted by CHED and also for accreditation.
