_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: Applying the methodological research design in test development, this Value Scale for Filipinos (VAS-F) was developed and validated for individuals 16 years old and above. It went through the processes of item generation, content review, dry-run, application of the Delphi approach, item correlation analysis, factor analysis using varimax rotation, scale value computation based on the methods of successive intervals, further validation, and establishment of reliability measures. Two parallel forms of value scale (Forms A and B) evolved from these processes. Both forms measure the following values: patriotism and national pride, sense of common good, integrity and accountability, discipline and hard work, self-reflection and analysis, commitment to public interest, moral responsibility, and self-help and self-preservation. (Reports of three recent studies which used VAS-F have suggested that the combination of Forms A and B in one single form provides more robust data. A total of 568 participants distributed in the various stages and processes of the instrument development were involved in this investigation. These participants were drawn from two educational institutions of higher learning-the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, (2nd Semester 1992-1993), and the Lyceum of the Philippines, (1st Semester, 1993-1994). Norms were not computed for this limited number of participants. Recommendations are, however, made to administer the scale to different groups of samples for norming and standardization for wider applicability. Anchored on the sociological frameworks of functionalism and symbolic interactionism, the VAS-F is a beginning approximation of measure on standardized and normed can contribute as an assessment tool in the government's Moral Recovery Program to build a people and a nation. _u |
