_aABSTRACT: This study attempted to determine and analyze the significant relationship between the perceptions on the use of computer technology and science achievement by selected Junior and Senior students at San Jose P. Laurel High School, Tondo, Manila. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of: a. Sex b. Age c. Year Level d. Science Achievement 2. What are the perceptions of the respondents regarding computer technology? 3. Is there a significant difference in the perception of the respondents on the use of computer technology in the classroom instructions and achievement? 4. Is there a significant difference in the experiences and their exposure with the computer? 5. Is there a significant relationship between perception of Science students on the use of computer technology and their Science achievement? This descriptive study made use of a one-shot survey on the perceptions of science students on the use of computer technology in classroom instruction. There were 92 high school students coming from the first section of Junior and first and second sections of Senior students. The selection of samples was done through convenient sampling technique. Since the number of Science students enrolled in Computer course is very small, the researcher included all of them as respondents of the investigation. The researcher utilized the questionnaire prepared and validated by Noveliza Fugabon, 1997. The 5-point Likert-scale was used in the gathering of the responses of respondents. The statements in the questionnaire are presented to the respondents whether they agree or disagree and the degree of agreement or disagreement is elicited. The following hypotheses were selected at .05 level of significance: 1. There is no significant difference in the perceptions of the respondents on the use of computer technology in the classroom instructions and achievement. 2. There is no significant difference in the experiences and their exposure with computer. 3. There is no significant relationship between the perception of Science students on the use of computer technology and their science achievement. The chi-square test of independence One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and t-test were used to verify and test the hypotheses of the study. The statistical tests performed on the hypotheses yielded the following results: FINDINGS 1. More male respondents, i.e., 54.34% have demonstrated greater interest in enrolling themselves in computer technology. 2. In terms of age, younger students, i.e., age bracket 15-16 comprised 90.21% indicated greater interest in computer technology. 3. Most of the students have exposure with computer. 4. The respondents found computer easy to use as reflected in the weighted mean at 4.80 with rank 1 among the 10 perception statements. 5. The respondents found that working with computer is enjoyable as reflected in the weighted mean of 4.43 with rank 1 among the 10 perception statements. 6. Most of the students have experience with computer. 7. Most of the respondents have basic computer knowledge on describing computer application as reflected in the weighted mean of 2.03 with rank 1 among the 3 perception statements. 8. Most of the respondents are skillful in word processing as reflected in the weighted mean of 2.05 with rank 1 among 3 perception statements. 9. Most of the students obtain information from the application of computer in their studies as reflected in the weighted mean of 4.29 with rank 1 among the 4 perception statements. CONCLUSIONS In view of the findings, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. There was no significant difference in the responses and perceptions of students on the use of computer technology in the classroom instruction and achievement. 2. There was no significant difference in the experiences and their exposure to computer. 3. There was a significant relationship between the perception of science students on the use of computer technology and their science achievement. RECOMMENDATIONS: Based from the findings of the study the following were recommended: 1. The possibility of evaluating the program offering on computer technology that will include the following aspects: 1.1 including more number of sections from the different year levels to ensure greater participation in the offering of modern technology subject; 1.2 provision on the improvement of teaching strategies and learning activities to gain more effectiveness and efficiency of students in using computer in their classroom instruction; 1.3 training of additional computer teachers to accommodate a wide number of student-enrollees in the computer technology subject; and 1.4 strategic dissemination of information about the program offering to attract more students to enroll in computer subject. 2. The possibility of expansion of computer laboratory that will include increase in the number of computer units and increase in the number of session to alleviate the students' interest and eagerness to learn computer. Further, to increase the extent of the students' basic knowledge, skillfulness, and the use of computer and intensive application of computer in their studies. 3. Increase in number of science instructional materials in science.
