_aABSTRACT. This study aimed to compare the academic performance of Level III Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila Nursing students in the School Year 2010-2011 in terms of their final grade in Medical-Surgical Nursing I in their utilization of textbooks and combined use of electronic books and textbooks as learning resources. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of the following: 1.1 Monthly family income 1.2 Utilization of learning resources 2. What is the respondents' status regarding the utilization of Electronic books I terms of the following: 2.1 Access to Electronic books 2.2 Sources of Electronic books 2.3 Frequency of usage of Electronic books 2.4 Duration of usage of Electronic books 2.5 Reasons for usage of Electronic books 3. What is the academic performance of Level III Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila Nursing students in the School Year 2010-2011 in terms of their final grade in Medical-Surgical Nursing I? 4. Is there a significant difference in the academic performance of Level II Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila Nursing students in School Year 2010-2011 in terms of their final grade in Medical-Surgical Nursing I when grouped according to their utilization of textbooks and combined use of electronic books and textbooks as learning resources? 5. Based on the results, what academic enhancement program may be proposed regarding the utilization of learning resources as a means of improving the academic performance of PLM Nursing students? Participants of the study were the Third Year Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila - College of Nursing students in the School Year 2010-2011. Researchers utilized quantitative descriptive survey method. In order to compare the academic performance of the respondents in their utilization of textbooks and combined use of electronic books and textbooks as learning resources, a survey composed of two parts was utilized. The first part of the survey form includes the profile of the respondents which pertains o their monthly income. The second part is composed of the respondents' status regarding the utilization of Electronic books as a learning resource. Purposive Sampling was used as the sampling technique in this study. The criterion for the selection of the respondents was Level III Nursing students in the School Year 2010-2011. Sample population was further grouped into two: first group was those who solely utilize textbooks; and, the second group was those who utilize both textbooks and eBooks as their learning resources. The statistical treatment that was used was the frequency and percentage distribution and, the z-test. Based on the result of the z-test, there is no significant difference in the performance of Level III PLM Nursing students on School Year 2010-2011 in terms of their final grade in Medical-Surgical Nursing I when grouped according to their utilization of textbooks and combined use of electronic books and textbooks as learning resources, despite that the mean of the sample group that utilizes both textbooks and electronic books is slightly higher than the mean of the sample group who solely use textbooks. This means that learning resources alone did not significantly influence the academic performance of the respondents. On the basis of the finding s and conclusion, the following recommendations were offered: Nursing Students. Based on the findings of this study, majority of the respondents utilized the combined use of electronic books and textbooks as learning resources, the researchers encourage the students who only use textbooks to maximize the use of available resources. Moreover, to those nursing students who can't afford to purchase eBooks from the internet, they are suggested to ask for a copy from their eBook users. For those who don't have a medium for accessing electronic books, they are advised to utilize the available computers in the library. However, the researchers are not aiming to change the students' perception and preferences when it comes to utilization of learning resources. College of Nursing Educators. Through the result of this study, the instructors are now aware regarding the utilization of eBooks as one of the learning resources of the students and can therefore recommend the use of such in combination with textbooks to further assess its effect on the academic performance of nursing students. They are suggested to also consider eBooks as an extension of textbooks through which they can expand and learn updated information that they will share to their students. The researchers intend not to change their preferred teaching styles but to make them aware of the technologically advance learning resources that the students are utilizing. College of Nursing Student Council. The researchers suggest the CNSC to continue the program Pahiram Libro Mo wherein the students will lend their old books to those who are in need of additional resources. Furthermore, the researchers encourage the CNSC to propose a project regarding the free distribution of electronic books to PLM nursing students. Through this, the students can maximize their learning resources. Further Researchers. Since the researchers' study showed that there is no difference between the academic performance of Level III PLM Nursing students in School Year 2010-2011 in terms of their Final Grade in Medical-Surgical Nursing I when grouped according to their utilization of textbooks and combined use of electronic books and textbooks as learning resources, future researchers are recommended to pursue a more comprehensive study on the effect of different learning resources such as eBooks to the academic performance of nursing students. Other variable not included in the study such as respondents' final grades in other nursing subjects and different research locale should also be considered. The said study will not only substantiate to what this current research provided but will give deeper understanding of the utilization of textbooks and combined use of electronic books and textbooks as learning resources.
