_b _b _c _aABSTRACT. The study aimed to develop a program on self-awareness for women victims of violence. Specifically, it sought to answer the following specific questions: 1. How are the respondents described when grouped according to the following variables: 1.1 age 1.2 civil status 1.3 educational attainment 1.4 relationship to the perpetrators 1.5 employment 1.6 number of children 2. To what extent violence is inflicted among the respondents in terms of: 2.1 physical 2.2 emotional 2.3 sexual 3. What are the effects of violence on the self-esteem of women victims? 4. Is there a significant relationship between the socio-demographic variables and the effects of violence on the self-esteem of women victims? 5. What program can be developed to enhance self-awareness of women victims of violence? The study utilized the Descriptive Method of research with a total of 40 respondents. The questionnaire as an instrument has been adopted, patterned and formulated from the Women's Desk Intake Form which shows the extent of violence inflicted on women victims and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Moreover, the tool was patterned after the Likert Scale which indicated the answers of the respondents. In selecting the 40 respondents, the researcher utilized the purposive sampling based on a criteria such as: a resident of Margarita Hills for 10 years, identified as abuse by the community coordinator and willing to participate in the study. Moreover, the statistical treatment used in this study were in the form of frequency counts, percentage distribution, weighted mean and Kendall's Coefficient of Concordance. Based on the findings of this study, it was revealed that respondents are fourteen (14) or thirty five percent (35%) belonged to 48 to 57 years old, eight (8) or forty five percent (45%) were married. Most of the respondents are twenty five (25) or sixty two percent (62%) were high school graduates. Husbands topped the list of perpetrators of violence. Twenty five (25) or sixty three percent (63%) were self-employed. On average, the respondents have 4 children and that thirty one (31) or seventy seven percent (77%) have from 1-4 children. The following are the recommendations made: 1. Implement the Self-Awareness Program as a preventive, curative and rehabilitative tool, to be used as a reference material for nurses in delivering quality health care for women victims of violence. The program itself can also be incorporated in the curriculum on violence against women and serves as training for health care professionals. 2. Perform studies on violence against women, giving consideration on the respondent's socio-demographic variables as an important factor to develop effective methods of screening for holistic health care management that will include not only the physical aspect but as well as the mental, emotional and social. 3. Medical records should be well-documented so that when cases regarding domestic violence are brought to court, they can strengthen, corroborate and establish factual evidence that there was an occurrence of abuse in order to help patients and their families to obtain legal remedies. 4. Conduct education and training programs to women such as gender sensitivity and ways on how to defend their selves against any kind of violence. 5. There should be a stricter enforcement of laws on rape, incestuous offenses and violence against women to protect them from all forms of violence. There should be a collaborative efforts between police and protection agencies, arrest policies, protection orders, battered women defense strategies, sentencing, batterer treatment, child sexual abuse and children's testimony 6. Expand and enhance research on socio-cultural correlates of violence. A similar study should be conducted to confirm/disconfirm the findings of this study. _u |
