_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: This study was conducted to determine the significant relationship between extents of rendered holistic nursing care approaches based on Blattner's Model as basis for staff development program. Specifically it sought to answer the following: To what extent do nurses rendered holistic nursing care activities in terms of Preventive, Nurturative and Generative; To what extent do nurses rendered holistic nursing care activities in the following life processes; Self-responsibility life process, Caring life process, Human Development life process, Stress life process, Life styling life process, Communication life process, Problem-Solving life process, Teaching and Learning life process, and Leadership & Change life process; To what extent do nurses render holistic life systems in terms of intrapersonal. Interpersonal, and Community life systems; To what extent do nurses render holistic life systems when grouped according to life processes; Is there a significant relationship between the extent of holistic nursing care activities and extent of holistic life systems rendered by nurses; Based on the result of the result of the study what staff development program can be developed. This study was a descriptive type of research, wherein the researcher obtained and adopted her ideas and patterns references related to the topic of Holistic Nursing Care Approach by Barbara Blattner to create a self-made questionnaire. Using purposive sampling technique, a sampling that determined the target population, those involved in the performance of the holistic nursing care approaches, the researcher chose the 60 nurse-respondents on the basis of their knowledge of the information desired and 60 patients confined in the general wards of Ospital ng Maynila Medical Canter. The statistical procedures utilized to answer the questions presented in the statement of the problem were frequency and percentage distribution table and the weighted mean to determine the extent of rendered holistic nursing activities and holistic life systems and also when they were grouped according the different life processes. Pearson's r Product of Moment Correlation Coefficient with Student t=test were applied to determine the relationship of the holistic nursing activities and the holistic life systems rendered by nurses. The results showed that nurses has there was a high extent of rendered holistic nursing care activities in terms of preventive, nurturative and generative as reflective by the weighted mean of their answers to the 5-point Likert scale. Likewise, from the aforementioned findings, the following conclusions were made: that there was a high extent of rendered holistic nursing care activities in terms of preventive, nurturative and generative, that there was a high extent of rendered holistic nursing care activities in all of the following life processes based on the nurses and patient perceptions except for the self-responsibility life process in the nurse's point of view with an interpretation of very high extent; that there was a high extent of practice of nurses in rendering holistic life systems in terms of Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, and Community life systems; that there was a high extent of nurses in rendering holistic life systems when grouped according to life processes; that there was a large or high positive correlation with r or Pearson's coefficient of correlation between the holistic nursing care activities and life systems rendered by nurses as perceived by the nurses and patients, therefore the null hypothesis was rejected and that there was a significant relationship between the extent of practice of holistic nursing care activities and holistic life systems rendered by nurses. It was therefore recommended that there must be a continuous assessment of the application of Holistic Nursing Care Approaches rendered by the nurses to their client based on Blattner's model; there should be nurse's rendition of care based on Blattner's Holistic Nursing Care Approach which will encompass the physical aspect of the client and also the emotional, spiritual, and social aspect of their life; there should be a proper inculcation of the concept about holistic nursing care approaches in students to improve the students awareness and understanding towards the current trend and practices applied and utilized by nurses nowadays; that this study should served as an assessment to nurses thus helping the nursing administrators to improve specific areas where they lack in providing holistic care; that this study served as a starting of their research regarding the real setting or view of Battler's Holistic Care Approach if they intend to do a study on Holistic Care based on Blattner's perspective. And based from the results of he study a Staff Development Program for OMMC was developed. _u |
