_aABSTRACT. This study aimed to measure the level of awareness of the female population of the community about dengue. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. What are the socio-demographic profile of the respondents in terms of: 1.1 Age 1.2 Educational Attainment 1.3 Employment 1.4 Type of Family 2. What is the level of awareness of the respondents about dengue in terms of: 2.1 Vector/Causative Agent 2.2 Environmental factors 2.3 Clinical Manifestations 2.4 Complications 2.5 Preventive measures 2.6 Overall Level of Awareness 3. Is there a significant relationship between the socio-demographic profile and the level of awareness of the respondents on dengue? 4. Based on the results of the study, what creative strategies can be implemented by the researchers to enhance the respondents level of awareness and reinforce existing dengue prevention and control programs in the community? A descriptive type of research was utilized in the study with the use of a questionnaire as instrumentation. This study utilized a two-part questionnaire; with part I containing queries regarding the respondent's socio-demographic profile such as the age, educational attainment, employment, and type of family. Part II consists of 25 questions that measure the level of awareness of the individual about dengue in terms of the dengue vector, environmental factors that affect the proliferation of vector mosquitoes, clinical manifestations of dengue, its complications, and preventive measures to avoid acquiring the disease. A five-point Likert scale ranging from Strongly Agree (5), Agree (4), Undecided (3), Disagree (2), and Strongly Disagree (1), will measure the respondent's level of awareness. Participants of the study were chosen through a non-probability convenient sampling to choose the respondents wherein the researchers selected female with children married or unmarried who are residents of the barangay and are accessible at the time of the actual survey. The statistical treatments used in the study were frequency and percentage method, weighted mean, and the Chi-Square Test of Association. The following findings were obtained from the study: 1. The socio-demographic profile of the respondents were as follows: 1.1 Age - Most of the respondents are mothers in young adulthood. 1.2 Educational Attainment - Majority of the respondents have graduated from high school or the secondary level of education. 1.3 Employment - A large amount of the participants were unemployed. 1.4 Type of Family - Most of the respondents belong to a nuclear type of family. 2. The respondents level of awareness about dengue in terms of the following categories are: 2.1 Vector/Causative Agent - In the vector category, the respondents have attained a high level of awareness. 2.2 Environmental Factors - In the environmental factor category, they have attained very high level of awareness. 2.3 Clinical Manifestations - In the clinical manifestations category, the respondents attained a high level of awareness. 2.4 Complications - In the compliance category, the respondents acquired a high level of awareness. 2.5 Preventive measures - In the preventive measures category, the respondents attained a high level of awareness. 2.6 Overall Weighted Mean - In the overall level of awareness, the respondents acquired a high level of awareness. 3. The significant relationship between the socio-demographic profile and the level of awareness of the respondents revealed that: 3.1 Age: There is a significant relationship between the Age and the Level of Awareness of the respondents. 3.2 Educational Attainment: There is a significant relationship between the Educational Attainment and the Level of Awareness of the respondents. 3.3 Employment: There is no significant relationship between the employment and the Level of Awareness of the respondents. 3.4 Type of Family : There is no significant relationship between the Type of Family and the Level of Awareness of the respondents. 4. The enhanced program intend to increase the level of awareness and reinforce the four o'clock habit of the government implemented in the community which includes modifications to encourage community participation to promote compliance with the program by promoting cleanliness in their surroundings and making themselves responsible for the improvement of their community and it likewise imparts the importance of a healthy environment and the value of unity to achieve a common goal that will be beneficial for all. The conclusions formulated from the study were: 1. In terms of the socio-demographic profile, the age group and the educational attainment of the female population has a significant relationship with the level of awareness. On the other hand, the employment and the type of family do not have a relationship with the level of awareness of the respondents on dengue. 2. In terms of the mean level of awareness of the female population, the researchers conclude that they have a high level of awareness. Specifically, the respondents attained a high level of awareness on the category of vector (dengue-carrying mosquito); very high level on the environmental factors; whereas in the clinical manifestations and complications, they acquired a high level of awareness in the preventive measures. The following recommendations were made: 1. Community Based on the results of this study a creative strategy on the four o'clock habit was created to encourage community participation to comply with the program by promoting cleanliness in their surroundings and making themselves responsible for the improvement of their community as well as, making the four o'clock habit effective. This is also aims to impart the importance of healthy environment and the value of unity to achieve common goal that will be beneficial for all. The enhanced program can be applied to the other communities with similar situations and problems related to dengue and in communities where incidence of dengue is high. 2. Nursing Educators The information contained in this study may be used by the nursing educators to develop and update methods of information dissemination strategies that will be effective and appropriate for the public with regard to dengue. Furthermore, the information contained in this study may be used to develop an updated or new curriculum of the Community Health Nursing subject in schools pertaining to dengue information campaign, as well as other programs being implemented by the Department of Health. 3. Nursing Students The research findings will help nursing students realize that the level of awareness is directly associated with the socio-demographic profile of the respondents, thus, appropriate methods of teaching can be utilized so as to impart information with ease and take into consideration distinct characteristics of individuals. The tool and program developed can be used or put into practice by future nursing students undergoing their community health nursing duties in order to control dengue in a susceptible community. 4. Nursing Researchers The relevant information acquired from this study will encourage future researchers to use it as basis for future similar researches related to dengue where a different set of respondents and area will be involved.
