_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: Nursing involves a broad spectrum of services with the end view of raising the health level of the populace. One of the areas in public health nursing specifically deals with the promotion, prevention of cervical cancer through the use of Acetic Acid Visualization. The study appraised the perceived effectiveness of the Cervical Cancer Screening Program (CCSP) among the women of reproductive age of Daang Bakal, Mandaluyong City. Specifically it identified and analyzed the socio-demographic profile of the respondents, their perception on the Cervical Cancer Screening Program's effectiveness based on; a) accessibility, b) compliance, and c) level of satisfaction as well as the significant difference between the respondents socio-demographic profile and the perceived effectiveness of the CCSP to come up with proposed interventions to enhance the program. To achieve the purpose of the study a total of 127 respondents who were single, married, widowed or separated were purposively sampled. They represented 3.5 percent based on the computation of eligible population of Married Women of Reproductive Age (MWRA). Many were high school graduates, housewives with 2 children belonging to the 26-30 age group whose average monthly income were 6001 and above. Moreover, their perceptions on the effectiveness of the program were found to be accessible, compliant and satisfied. However, the compliance to the program was hindered by the lack of awareness about the disease, the husband's decision or other cultural obstacles. To gather data and information needed in the investigation, the checklist questionnaire, interview of respondents and key informants, observation and data analysis of pertinent Department of Health files were used. Further, the statistical treatment of data utilized percentage, ranking, weighted mean and the R.A. Fisher test of the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at .05 level of significance. Significant findings of this study were used in proposing interventions to enhance the Cervical Cancer Screening Program. _u |
