_aABSTRACT. The study aims to know the experiences of a critical care nurses in terms of skills, knowledge, and attitude. This triad is essential in providing the best quality care not only to actual but also potential life threatening situations. And based from these experiences of critical care nurses, this study aims to develop and propose a competency guideline. Specifically, the study will attempt to answer the following questions: 1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents as to: 1.1 Age 1.2 Gender 1.3 Civil Status 1.4 Length of service 2. How do the experiences of the critical care nurses' manifests competency in terms of. 2.1 Cognitive/Knowledge 2.2 Motor/Skills 2.3 Affective / Attitude 3. Is there a significant association between the demographic profile of nurses and their manifested experiences in the following competencies? 4. What guidelines for the competency of a critical care nurse can be formulated based on manifested experiences. Descriptive research was the method adopted and questionnaire was used as a tool. It composed of two (2) sets of questionnaire. The first part of the questionnaire generates demographic information of the respondents as to their age, gender, civil status, and length of service. While, the second part is composed of the checklist questionnaire, which is further subdivided into three. A five point Likert-Scale utilized by the respondents in answering the questionnaire. Convenient sampling was used to select the respondents based on the criteria set. The study conducted on selected Critical Care Unit, Burn, and Central Intensive Care Unit. All respondents will come from these subdivisions of ICU. Moreover, for the statistical treatment of data, weighted mean, percentage distribution, and Chi-squares was utilized. Based on the findings of the study, it was revealed that the respondents have a high level of competency as a critical care nurses in all of the three aspects: skills, knowledge and attitude. There are no problems encountered by the respondents when utilizing this competency in the Intensive Care Unit, however, characteristics with lowest weighted means were considered as potential problems. Hence, it was inferred that there is no significant association between the demographic profile of the critical care nurses and the competencies in terms of skills, knowledge, and attitude. And based from their experiences in different areas of the ICUs, the researchers were able to develop a proposed guideline in terms of skills, knowledge and attitude that will be of great help to future ICU nurses in their actual practice as a basis of competency. It is important to note that intensive care units needs highly skilled and knowledgeable nurses due to the fact that it caters critically ill patients, therefore, more studies and researches must be conducted regarding the competency of a critical care nurse. Future researchers should confide their study in a specific division of an intensive care unit for the reason that different care is rendered depending on the patients case. Furthermore, they should also consider a larger number of respondents in conducting a related study about critical care nursing; this would make the sample a better representative of the whole. Critical care nurse should be updated to modern technological advances regarding their specialized fields. They should also consider programs or seminars that will enhance their skills in handling and manipulating equipment and in performing procedures.
