_aABSTRACT. The main purpose of the study is to evaluate the Battery Examination as a part of the retention policy of the College of Nursing. It sought to answer the following questions: First how do the College of Nursing administration, Nursing academe, and students evaluate the Battery examination in terms of : objectives, preparation of students, administration of the examination, releasing of results. Second, what are the common problems encountered by the respondents on the Battery Examination? Third, is there a significant relationship between the administration, faculty and students evaluation on Battery Examination? Fourth, what is the level of performance of nursing students in terms of : Battery Exam and General Weighted Average. Fifth, is there a significant relationship between the Battery Exam performance and the General Weighted Average? Lastly, based on the findings of the study, what aspect of the Battery Exam need to be enhanced? This study used descriptive and documentary analysis method of research to help the researchers determine the extent to which different variables are related to each other in the population of interest. The population in this study are 176 Senior BS Nursing students who undergone the Battery Examination in 2005, 9 faculty members who were employed at the year of examination, and 3 college administrators were chosen. Sampling technique utilized were purposive sampling for the students and faculty, while universal sampling for the college administrators. Based on the findings, the Battery Examination components namely, the Objectives, preparation, and Administration were properly carried out. The weak point of the said examination is the release component. The most common problems encountered by the respondents are the following: the original schedule of the battery exam was not observed, sleepless nights due to anxiety and fear of failing the exam, and the scores which were not presented to the students and their parents. Using the Chi-Square statistical treatment, it was found out that there was no significant relationship between the perceptions of the respondents regarding the objectives, preparation, and administration of the battery examination. On the other hand, the respondents perceptions on the release aspect of the Battery Examination showed a significant relationship. The Senior students' academic performance produced a very satisfactory outcome based on their General Weighted Average. Compared to their Battery Examination performance that was reflected in their Battery Examination Scores, which only came up with a satisfactory mark. Based on the Pearson's R correlation, it was revealed that there is no significant relationship between the Battery Examination performance and the General Weighted Average. The following recommendations are being forwarded based on the findings of the study: The researchers propose that the battery examination be abolished from the retention policy of the College of Nursing. PLM-CN has been maintaining its high standards of nursing education even without the existence of a battery examination. Moreover, as evidenced by the absence of significance between the battery examination scores and the GWA of the students, this demonstrate that those who made good grades in the battery examination is not assured of good academic performance post battery exam. This furthermore supports the stand of the researchers that the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila can definitely achieve its high standards of nursing education without the battery examination as an added burden on the students attainment of a high general weighted average. Instead, the students can focus their attention more on their academic performance by striving to achieve better General Weighted Average rather than focusing on the battery examination.
