_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: Statement of the Problem The study assessed the implementation of standards of Quality Assurance Program of the Nursing Service at a private tertiary hospital in Quezon City. Specifically, answers to the following questions were sought: 1. To what extent have the standards of Quality Assurance Program been implemented in the Nursing Service Division as assessed by committee members and staff nurses in terms of: 1.1.Structure 1.1.1. Organization and Administration 1.1.2. Functions, Responsibilities and Expectations from QAP Committee Members 1.1.3. Policies and Procedures 1.1.4. Physical Facilities and Resources 1.2. Process 1.2.1. Program Implementation 1.3. Outcome 1.3.1. Monitoring and Evaluation 1.3.2. Records and Reports 2. To what extent have the standards of Quality Assurance Program been implemented in the Nursing Service Units as assessed by committee members and staff nurses? 3. What is the level of compliance of staff nurses in the delivery of standard nursing care services as part of Quality Assurance Program in the following aspects: 3.1. Assessment 3.2. Plan of care Nursing Care Implementation 3.3. Outcome of care 4. What is the level of patient satisfaction in the delivery of nursing care services as part of Quality Assurance Program? 5. Is there a significant difference in the assessment of the staff nurses compliance and the level of patient satisfaction in the delivery of standard nursing care services as part of the implementation of Quality Assurance Program? 6. What are the possible recommendations to improve Quality Assurance Program in the studied hospital? The study used a descriptive comparative design. It was done a FEU-NRMF hospital in Quezon City. The respondents were the Quality Assurance Committee members, staff nurses and patients in the clinical area (Medicine, OB/Gyne and Surgery ward). Samples were purposefully selected for them to respond appropriately to the questionnaires. The researcher used three sets of questionnaires to gather the information needed. The data were collected for one month from February 19, 2004 to March 20, 2004. Data were tallied and computed using weighted mean in order to determine the implementation of standards of Quality Assurance Program (QAP) in the Nursing Service Division and Nursing Service Units. T test was utilized to find if there is significant in the assessment made by patients and nurses regarding the deliver of nursing care. Findings revealed that the Quality Assurance Committee and Staff nurses received that the implementation of standards of Quality Assurance Program in the Nursing Service Division has been complied with to a maximum extent (4.2=84%) in all aspects for physical facilities and program implementation have been complied with a moderate extent (3.8=76%). The following recommendations were made to achieve fullest implementation of the Quality Assurance Program: continuing education for every nurse focusing on quality patient care and documentation of the organizational structure and evaluation of every program activity were encouraged; acquisition of additional computer system, sound system and video system and copies of Patient's Bill of Rights, and orientation/familiarization of the staff nurses regarding its usage. On the other hand, Nursing Service Units standards of Quality Assurance Program have been implemented with to a maximum compliance in all aspects (4.4=88%). Review hiring policies and retention schemes of the Nursing Service. Continuously updating of policies and procedures and acquisition of additional supplies, penlight, plaster, droplight, bandage scissors and bed linen to improve physical facilities in every Nursing Units were recommended. In terms of delivery of standard nursing care, staff nurses have complied with to a maximum extent (4.2=84%) while the patients were moderately satisfied (3.9=78%). It was recommended that designing and implementing patients and relatives health-teaching programs to enable them to participate in the planning and implementation of care and empower them to assume self-care responsibilities and nursing care with emphasis on emotional and spiritual needs of the patients must be done. However, t-test showed that there is no significant difference in the assessment of the staff nurses compliance and level of patients satisfaction in the delivery of standard nursing services as part of the implementation of Quality Assurance Program. _u |
