_aABSTRACT: The nursing profession calls for holistic approach in delivering health care to humanity. Moreover, different aspects of individuals namely physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual must be addressed in order for an individual to recover completely from an illness. Spirituality has a special importance in unifying all the aspects of individual's health. Since the delivery of care depends on the competence and effectiveness of the health care providers, it is suggested that integration of holistic (including spiritual) concept of care in the educational level is highly significant. In the course of the practice of nursing profession, the nurse is also called to make decisions which are against the individualized moral principles and values yet still have to do it for the benefit of the patient. The purpose of the study is to determine the impact of spiritual intelligence on the values orientation of selected senior nursing students from sectarian and nonsectarian schools. Specifically, the study attempted to know the extent of manifestation of their spiritual intelligence in terms of Divinity, Mindfulness, Intellectuality, Community, Childhood Spirituality and Trauma. The study also aimed to know the extent of manifestation of their values orientation in terms of values towards intellectual functioning, values towards others, values towards the role of spirituality, values towards personal and professional growth, values towards social and political consciousness and responsibilities, understanding of values and morality, and development of commitment to values. It was also prospected if there is a relationship between spiritual intelligence and values orientation of nursing students from sectarian and nonsectarian schools respectively. The study used the descriptive correlational research design in the collection of data to answer the questions raised by the researchers. The study was limited to regular senior nursing students from the schools within the vicinity of Manila, in which they are taking nursing as their first course without any record of finishing another course. The respondents came from three sectarian schools, namely Adamson University, Philippine Christian University-Mary Johnston Hospital College of Nursing, and St. Paul University Manila and three nonsectarian schools, namely Metropolitan Medical Center College of Nursing, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and Universidad de Manila. Samples were obtained, through stratified random sampling, by computing the thirty percent of the total population in each school. The researchers used Richard Wolman's Psychomatrix Spiritual Inventory and McMillan's Values Survey which were adapted and modified based on its applicability to the nursing students. Weighted mean and Pearson's Moment Correlation Coefficient were used as the statistical treatment of the data collected. The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between the spiritual intelligence and values orientation of the senior nursing students from sectarian and nonsectarian schools. In line with the results of the study, the researchers proposed focused areas of recommendation that can enhance the spiritual intelligence and spirituality of the student-nurses as well as the professional nurses which are relevant in giving holistic care to humanity.
