_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: The study on The Use of Information Communication Technology devices as a Supplemental Tools in Teaching Nursing Courses is an evaluative study which used the descriptive-normative design to determine the ICT devices used by the faculty, the faculty's capability in terms of knowledge, operation, trouble-shooting, the ICT's usability with respect to availability, utilization, and maintenance; problems encountered in using and the ICT devices enhancement in learning as to knowledge, performance and behavior. It also looked into the differences in perception among the administration, faculty and students on the use of ICT devices as supplemental tools in enhancing learning. It involved a total of 300 respondents distributed into 266 nursing students, 26 faculty members and 8 administrators of the college of nursing of the University of Perpetual Help Laguna. Primary data were taken from a researcher-questionnaire while secondary data were obtained from theses and internet. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to describe variables using the weighted mean and the Friedman test to establish differences among the three group's perceptions. To establish content validity of the instrument, the researcher submitted the questionnaire to a panel of three nursing educators who were holders of Master of Arts in Nursing degree and three administrators from the College of Education. They were asked to evaluate the items for clarity and appropriateness and they accepted it with few revisions. The result of the study revealed that the ICT devices commonly used by the faculty in teaching nursing courses were the Overhead Projector and the Microsoft PowerPoint. The faculty members were highly capable in using ICT devices in terms of knowledge, operation and trouble-shooting. The availability , utilization, and maintenance of ICT devices were found evident. Problems encountered by the users of ICT devices are: the lack of modern ICT devices other than Overhead projectors, the lack of programs to update the faculty's knowledge and skills on the use of ICT devices, and the low ratio of ICT devices to the number of students. All the three aspects of learning were found to be extensively enhanced through the use of ICT devices in teaching. No significant differences existed among the three groups of respondents perceptions in terms of knowledge, performance and behavior, thereby leading to the acceptance of the null hypothesis that There are no significant differences existed among the perceptions of the administrators, faculty and students on the use of ICT devices as supplemental tool in teaching nursing courses in terms of availability, utilization and maintenance. The researcher recommended that since the ICT devices were used by the faculty, the administrators should maintain the momentum of interest of the faculty by supplying them with the most needed technologically-advanced ICT devices. In as much as the ICT devices are available, utilized and maintained, the administrators should encourage the faculty to utilize it to the fullest by supplying them with the most needed technologically-advanced ICT devices to improve the students academic performance. To address the identified problems such as the lack of modern ICT devices other than Overhead Projectors and the low ratio of ICT devices to the number of students, there is a need to prioritize the purchase of the much needed modern ICT devices. However, this problem has been addressed by the administration lately. For the lack of program to update the faculty member's knowledge and skills in the use of the devices, an action plan may be prepared to conduct training updates on the use of ICT devices that may be used in teaching especially for the newly-hired members of the faculty. The students should be informed as to the available training being implemented by posting its schedule on the bulletin board for the students information. _u |
