_aABSTRACT: The demand for nurses abroad has reached the Philippines and the degree has been a phenomenon. From 140 nursing schools in 1999 to 470 now and from 12, 581 registered nurses in 1999 to an estimated 50,000 RNs this year (Galvez Tan, October 4, 2008). Reports in newspaper state that there was an oversupply of nurses in the Philippines (Ortiz 2008). The increased number of registered nurses today are overwhelming that hospital institutions are not enough to cater them. One must have an edge over the other and one way of doing so is acquiring a specialization in a certain field of nursing. The purpose of this study was to determine the field of specialization preference of senior BSN students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila of the school year 2008-2009. It sought to answer the questions, (1) What is the demographic profile of the nursing students in terms of gender and religion? (2) What is the perception and exposure of the nursing students on the following aspects of nursing praxis: (a) nursing concept preparation and (b) length of clinical experience? (3) What is the field of specialization preference of the nursing students? (4) Is there a significant relations between nursing students? And (5) Is there a significant relationship between nursing praxis and field of specialization preference of the nursing students? The study was limited to the specialized areas wherein the senior nursing students of PLM had their clinical experience. Descriptive correlational was used as the research design. 50% of the total senior nursing students were the target population and was chosen through random sampling. A questionnaire was used to gather data. After consolidating the data, it was statistically treated using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, chi-square and Pearson r. Findings showed that there is a significant relationship between the nursing students demographic profile and field of specialization preference. In the aspects of nursing praxis, a significant relationship was also found in some nursing concepts (Community Health Nursing, Obstetrics Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Surgical Nursing, and Intensive Care Nursing). In contrast, there was no significant relationship in nursing concepts of Orthopedic Nursing and Emergency Nursing. There was a negligible correlation between the length of clinical experience (another aspect of nursing praxis) and the field of specialization preference of the nursing students.
