_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: Nurses strive to incorporate holistic care that includes spiritual care into their nursing practice. The concept of providing spiritual care, as defined by one of Jean Watsons 10 carative factors, states that human should, in general be provided and instilled with faith and hope. This study primarily aimed to determine the spiritual care rendered by the nurses for chronically ill patients confined at the medical wards of selected tertiary hospitals in Manila. The descriptive-correlational method was used in this study, with purposive sampling technique utilized in identifying the 60 respondent-patients. The data show that 61.7% of the respondents were males, 23.3% belong to the age group 56-60, most of them only reached the Elementary level (25%), Roman Catholics (88.3%), and were currently employed (53.3%). The perceptions on the level of spiritual care rendered by nurse to the patient-respondents in terms of gender and occupation revealed a t-value of 1.67 and - 1.99 respectively against a critical value of 1.67 with 60 degree of freedom and level of significance of 0.05 that resulted to the rejection of the null hypothesis. The perceived level of spiritual care rendered by the nurses when grouped according to selected profile variables resulted to the rejection of the null hypothesis. Hence, it was concluded that: there is a significant relationship between the level of spiritual care and the certain socio-demographic variables such as gender and occupation. With the findings and conclusions noted, the researchers then formulated a guideline for nurses to follow in terms of prioritizing the spiritual care that would be rendered to the said patients according to the broad categories of spiritual care in which the use of prayer, rituals, and meditation to nurture the spirit are the utmost priority. _u |
