_aABSTRACT: This study aimed to determine the learning strategies affecting the academic performance of second year nursing students in their selected nursing subjects. There were seven problems identified and answered. First is the identification of the respondents socio-demographic profile in terms of gender, religion, family size and auditory, kinesthetic and visual. Third is the determination of academic grades in selected nursing subject. Fourth is the existence of significant relationship between the profile variables and learning strategies. Fifth is the significant relationship between profile variables and the academic performance. Lastly, is the presence of significant relationship between learning strategies and academic performance. Upon identification of those problems, corresponding hypothesis were made which were tested at o.05 level of significance. The descriptive research method was utilized in the study. The study was localized in the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, with the 100 second year students who passed the three major subjects included in this study as the respondents. It was also confined with the three major nursing subjects such as Basic Concepts in Nursing A, Maternal and Child Nursing I, And The Community Health Nursing I, Purposive sampling technique was used. As the main tool of data gathering, the researchers used the questionnaire which was patterned by the researchers from the VAK learning style questionnaire, and validated by the professionals as well. Furthermore, the researchers chose to use the 5-point Likert scale in the questionnaire to shun neutral answers from the respondents. The questionnaire consisted of two parts. The first part contained the respondents demographic profiles in terms of gender, religion, family size, ordinal position in the family, and the academic performance of the respondents in the selected nursing subjects. The second part of the questionnaire consisted of the respondents answers to their learning strategies in selected nursing subjects included in the study. There were various statistical treatment used in the study namely the grouped frequency distribution, the weighted mean, and the Chi-Square. Upon the accomplishment of the research, it was found out that most of the students taking up nursing course in the second year level were females. Most of them belong to Roman Catholic religion. Also, majority of them came from a family of 4-6 members and eldest among their siblings. In the aspect of learning strategies, the results brought out the fact that nursing students utilized more the visual learning strategies in Basic Concepts in Basic Concepts in Nursing A and Community Health Nursing I subjects. Auditory learning strategy was also used especially in MCN I. Besides, most of their academic performance ranges from 1.75-2.25, average if will be compared to a scale. It was also identified that those profile variables mentioned earlier have no effect on the academic performance of the students. On the other hand, in the test for the relationship between learning strategies and academic performance was conducted, most of the results showed that there is no significant relationship between the two variables but there were only two instances wherein a significant relationship was obtained in the auditory learning strategy of Basic Concepts in Nursing A and visual learning strategy of Maternal and Child Nursing I.
