_aABSTRACT: The main focus of this research was to determine the perception of the nursing students on spiritual aspect of care as integrated in the nursing curriculum. This study was undertaken to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila Nursing students in terms of: a. Age b. Gender, and c. Religion 2. What are the perceptions of the respondents on Spiritual Care in terms of the following: a. Identification of spiritual needs of clients; b. An essential part of the function of nurses; c. An important aspect of nursing curriculum? 3. Is there as significant difference in the respondent's perceptions on spiritual care when grouped according to their profile variables? 4. Based on the results of the study, what enrichment program on Spiritual Care for the PLM College of Nursing can be proposed? The researchers tested if there is no significant difference in the respondent's perception on spiritual aspect of care and their profile variables as to: (1) identification of spiritual needs of client; (2) essential part of the functions of nurses; and, (3) important of the nursing curriculum. The descriptive method was used to assess and to evaluate the perception of nursing students on the integrated spiritual aspect of care in the nursing curriculum. The non-probability purposive sampling technique was used to choose a total sample of 72 nursing student respondents based on the following criteria: that they are 3rd year - 4th year nursing students in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila; that they have already had their clinical exposure; and that they were willing and able to participate in the study. The statistical treatments that were applied in this study were the following: For problem number 1, the percentage distribution was used. For problem 2, the weighted mean and ranking method was used. For problem number 3, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were utilized. And from problem number 4, based from the results of the study, a guideline for the enrichment program on spiritual care of the PLM College of Nursing was developed. The data that have resulted to be having the highest scores in the ranks were used as the basis in formulating the program. In addition, the lowest in the rank were used as basis in constructing the rationale. Findings showed that 76% of the respondents were female while the remaining 24% were male. It also revealed that 75% of them were ages 19-20 and 25% belongs to ages 17-18. In terms of religion, majority of the respondents were Roman Catholic (85%) while the minorities were Christians (9%), Iglesia ni Cristo (3%), and other Christian groups (3%) respectively. The result for the perception on spiritual aspect of care was the following indicating the highest and the lowest in rank: The identification of spiritual needs of clients among nursing students were ranked accordingly and obtained a grand weighted mean of 3.66. The 5th item, verbalizes that he/she depends on God in times of trial, ranked the highest among the 10 items with a weighted mean of 4.11. While the 9th item, prays together with his/her family, ranked the lowest with a weighted mean of 3.01. The importance of the essential functions of nurses in spiritual care among nursing students were ranked accordingly and obtained a grand weighted mean of 4.02. The 8th item, provides therapeutic touch to client to make him/her feel assured, ranked the highest among the 11 items with a weighted mean 4.56. While item 6, collaborates/coordinates with spiritual counselor, chaplain in planning for client's spiritual care ranks the lowest, with a weighted mean of 3.33. The recommendation for enrichment of spiritual aspect of care in the nursing curriculum among nursing students were ranked accordingly and obtained a grand weighted mean of 4.19. Item 4 which is facilitation of self-awareness among students related to spirituality got the highest mean score of 4.43. While items 7 and 8 which are, provision of spiritual materials such as pamphlet, books, scripture, journals and articles and evaluation of spiritual knowledge of students through modules, workbook, journals and diaries got the lowest with a mean score of 3.96. With the formulated hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significance, data showed that there is no significant difference in the respondents perception on spiritual care and their profile variables. Based from the results of the study, an enrichment program on spiritual aspect of care in the nursing curriculum was developed. All data that gained the highest results were used as a basis to come up with the program. The researchers patterned the program from the study Spiritual Care Protocol for Critically-ill Patients (Chua, 2008).
