_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: This research evaluated the patient care core competency level of the fourth year nursing students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila to determine the needed for instructional enhancement. It sought to explore the difference of the levels of patient care competency of the fourth year nursing students when they were grouped according to their academic standing composing of their general weighted average from their first year, first semester up to their first year, first semester up to their third year, second semester. Specifically, the core competencies evaluated were the areas of safe and quality nursing care, communication, collaboration and teamwork and health education. The relationship of competencies under patient care was also defined and measured. A descriptive correlation was used as a research design that had analyze the recipients in depth and to measure the relationship of fourth year nursing students level of patient care core competencies and their academic standing. The statistical treatments utilized within this research were weighted mean, frequency distribution, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson's r to answer the statement of the problem. The null hypotheses were set at a =0.05 level of significance. For the first statement of the problem, determined by frequency distribution, majority of the respondents academic standing were Highly Satisfactory. On the second statement of the problem, levels of patient care competency were determined by their means and ranked accordingly. The competency that ranked first was safe and quality nursing care followed by collaboration and teamwork; health education, on the last ranking competency was that of communication. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine significant difference between the levels of patient care competency when respondents were grouped according to their academic standing. Result turned out with no significant difference in all the levels of the four dependent variables. While when utilizing Pearson's r, it showed no significant relationship between the levels of patient care competency and academic standing. Based on the results of this study, recommendations that could aid in the instructional enhancement and could assist future researchers who sought to explore the same fields or concepts were recommended. Also, the level of patient care competency that had the lowest ranking was the basis for the guidelines which was the output of the study. _u |
