_aABSTRACT: The study was generally conducted to determine the extents of paternal involvement from pregnancy to birth process as a basis for development of guidelines for quality paternal care at Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center and Tondo Medical Center. Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions: What is the extent of paternal involvement as perceived by themselves and the wife during the following stages of pregnancy: prenatal, labor and delivery, and postnatal; What is the extent of paternal involvement as perceived by themselves and the wife during the following stages of pregnancy: prenatal, labor and delivery, and postnatal; What is the extent of paternal involvement as perceived by themselves and the wife in terms of doing, being, and knowing; Is there a significant difference between the perceptions of the two (2) groups with regards to the extent of paternal involvement during the three (3) stages of pregnancy. Is there a significant difference between the perception of the two (2) groups with regards to the extent of adaption role in terms of doing, being, and knowing: Is there a significant difference among the extent of paternal involvement during the three (3) stages of pregnancy; and based from the results of the study, what guidelines for quality paternal involvement can be proposed. This study was a descriptive type of research, wherein the researcher obtained and adopted her ideas and patterns from different reference materials such as books, magazines, journals and others materials related to the topic to develop the self-made questionnaire. Purposive sampling technique was done in this study (based from the criteria set by the researcher) in choosing its respondents from the two selected locale: 40 couples from Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center and 50 couples from Tondo Medical Center. The statistical procedures utilized to determine the extent of paternal involvement as perceived by themselves and the wife during the following stages of pregnancy was weighted mean and ranking; to determine the extent of paternal involvement as perceived by themselves and the wife in terms of doing, being and knowing, the over-all mean and ranking was used; to know if there is a significant difference between the perceptions of the two (2) groups with regards to the extent of paternal involvement during the three (3) stages of pregnancy and to know if there is a significant difference between the perception of the two (2) groups with regards to the extent of adaption role in terms of doing, being and knowing, paired T-TEST was used; to know if there is a significant difference among the extent of paternal involvement during the three (3) stages of pregnancy, ANOVA or Analysis of Variance with Tukey Test as post-hoc was used; and lastly to know if there is a significant difference in the extent of paternal involvement among the three (3) adaption roles, ANOVA or Analysis of Variance with Tukey Test as post-hoc was used. The results showed that: there was a high extent of paternal involvement during the prenatal stage of pregnancy as perceived by both the husband and wife respondents; there was a very high extent of paternal involvement as perceived by the husband-respondents and a high extent of paternal involvement as perceived by the wife-respondents, during the labor and delivery stage of pregnancy; there was a very high extent of paternal involvement as perceived by the husband-respondents and a high extent of paternal involvement during the postnatal stage of pregnancy; there was a high extent of paternal involvement in terms of role adaptation ways of doing as perceived by both the husband and the wife-respondents; there was a high extent of paternal involvement in terms of role adaptation ways of being as perceived by the husband and wife-respondents; There was a very high extent of paternal involvement as perceived by the husband-respondents and a high extent of paternal involvement in terms of role adaptation ways of knowing; there was a statistically significant difference between the perceptions of the two (2) groups with regards to the extent of paternal involvement during the three stages of pregnancy which implied that hypothesis 1 was rejected and that there was a significant difference between the extents of paternal involvement during the three stages of pregnancy; there was a statistically significant difference between the perceptions of the two (2) groups with regards to the extent of paternal involvement in terms of the three role adaptation ways of doing, ways of being and ways of knowing which implied that hypothesis 2 was rejected and that there was a significant difference between the perceptions of the two (2) groups with regards to the extent of paternal involvement during the three stages of pregnancy which implied that hypothesis 1 was rejected that there was a significant difference between the extents of paternal involvement during the three stages of pregnancy; there was a statistically significant difference between the perceptions of the two (2) groups with regards to the extent of paternal involvement in terms of the three role adaptation ways of doing, ways of being and ways of knowing which implied that hypothesis 2was rejected and that there was a significant difference between the perceptions of the two (2) groups with regards to the extent of adaptation role ways of doing, ways of being and ways of knowing, the null hypothesis 3 was rejected and that there was a statistically significant difference between the extents of paternal involvement during the three stages of pregnancy as perceived by the husband and wife-respondents; Post Hoc test resulted as follows: Prenatal Stage was significantly different from Labor and Delivery and Postnatal stages; Labor and Delivery Stage was significantly different from Prenatal Stage and not significantly different from Postnatal Stage; Postnatal Stage was significantly different from Prenatal Stage and not significantly different from Labor and Delivery Stage; and lastly, the null hypothesis 4 was accepted and that there was no statistically significant difference between the extents of paternal involvement among the three adaptation roles as perceived by the husband and wife-respondents.
