_aABSTRACT:The descriptive comparative study assessed and compared the level of awareness of rural and urban population. The 548 respondents involved in this time were purposively sampled from rural area (Talisay Batangas) and from urban area (Barangay 205 Zone 18). A three part questionnaire was utilized to gather the research data, which were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency, percentages, mean scores, ranks, Chi-square and test for hypothesis. The conceptual framework of this study focused on the level of awareness of Rural and Urban population on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in terms of knowledge and behavior and practices and the primary medium used in terms of media, health care facilities and resources. The theoretical framework of this study focused in interaction and adaptation of the population with the environment in terms of knowledge and behavior/practice to meet level of awareness on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Findings show the relationship between the level of awareness in terms of knowledge and behavior/practices. It also revealed the Urban population has a higher level of awareness on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome than the Rural population. Moreover findings presented the primary medium used by both population in acquiring information on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in television.
