_aABSTRACT: This study was generally conducted to develop an action plan for qaulity patient care based on the interdisciplinary teamwork attitudes among 104 healthcare professionals in the critical care unit. It specifically determined: the respondents profile of: age, nature of profession, and length of time employed; the extent of interdisciplinary teamwork attitudes of the respondents as to the following criteria: team structure, leadership, situation monitoring, mutual support, and communication; the significant difference between the respondent's extent of interdisciplinary teamwork attitudes when they are grouped according to their profile; the respondents experiences of different interdisciplinary teamwork barriers in the critical care unit; and the interdisciplinary teamwork action plan that can be developed to improved patient care in the critical care unit. The results showed that: most of the respondents: belong to the twenty to thirty-three years old; mostly nurses; and mostly worked for one to five years; there was a high extent of interdisciplinary teamwork attitudes of the respondents as to team structure, situation monitoring, mutual support and communication; and a very high extent as to leadership; the null hypothesis was rejected and that there was a statistically significant difference between extents of interdisciplinary teamwork attitudes when grouped according to age (20 to 33 and 34 to 55 years old), nature of profession (grouped of physician and group of other healthcare professionals) and length of time employed (less than 1 year and more than 15 years length of time employed: 1 to 5 years and more than 15 years length of time employed; 6 to 10 years and more than 15 length of time employed); the respondents experience of different interdisciplinary teamwork barriers in critical care unit were summarized as to the following themes: 1) Interpersonal Conflicts; 2) Lack of Management Preparation; 3) Not Conductive Work Condition; and 4) Insufficient Training and Development; the developed action plan was entitled Quality Patient Care Action Plan. It is recommended that: hospitals should improve the integration of interdisciplinary teamwork in their policies and procedures, and utilize the proposed quality patient care action plan; healthcare professionals to maintain their leadership skills and enhance their attitude towards interdisciplinary teamwork; hospital administrators to constantly monitor the role performance of the members of the interdisciplinary team; the Hospital Quality Management Delivery System to continuosly facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective and patient-centered care by the interdisciplinary team in all units of the hospital more specifically in the critical care unit/s; and patients should cooperate and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.
