_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: This is a Quasi - Experimental research which aimed to determine the effect of music intervention on memory retention of Nursing Board Reviewees, as a basis for the development of a review model on memory enhancement. The variables that were used in this study included the three most common type of learners (Kinesthetic, Auditory and Visual) and the different music intervention (Classic, Rock, R & B and No Music). The Nursing Board reviewees were gathered from four selected branches ( Manila, Marikina, Caloocan and Q.C.) of a known review center in the Philippines. The reviewees were chosen using purposive sampling and based on set of eligibility criteria. A total number of 160 respondents for this research were used. The instrument utilized in this study is an adapted and modified tool from V. Chislet and A. Chapman. The conduct of the study was done utilizing a pre-test and a post-test design. The control group (Caloocan branch) received No music as treatment while the three experimental groups (Manila, Marikina and Quezon City) received a designated music intervention which are Rock, R & B and Classical respectively. The data collected was then trated utilizing (1) frequency and percentage distribution, (2) mean score difference (3) Non - Parametric design using Kruskall Wallis Test, (4) Mann - Whinney U test, (5) those that there shown significant difference in Kruskall Wallis Test score and/or tjose that raniked the 2 highest in mean score difference served as the basis for the developed review model on memory enhancement. After tabulation and analysis of data was done, the research findings have shown that majority of the respondents 57% (f=91) belong to the Visual type of learners. In addition, the mean score difference results showed that for both Auditory and Visual Learner Rock music is more effective in enhancing their memory retention with a mean score difference of 3.2 and 3.24 respectively. For kinesthetic type of learners, a No music intervention is more preferred with a mean score difference of 1.33. The Kruskall Wallis Analysis have shown that only Visual learner have garnered a P-value below 0.05 which is 0.030. Thus, null hypothesis is rejected. On the other hand, since the P - value is above 0.05 for Auditory and Kinesthetic learner, null hypothesis is accepted. The Mann Whitney U test analysis depicts that for Visual learners, a significant difference between the non - experimental and experimental group (Classical) was observed. The said results paved way in the construction of the ultimate aim of this study which is a review model utilizing music for memory enhancement. _u |
