_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: This study is an attempt to develop and propose a faculty development program for the grade school teachers and staff of Our Lady of Grace Academy (OLGA) in Kaloocan City. The absence of a well-planned faculty development program in the said school motivated the researcher to conduct this study. The mission/vision statements of the school and the results of a needs assessment survey, the teachers and administrators of OLGA served as respondents. They were administered a questionnaire/checklist to gather the needed data. In this phase, the profile of the teachers in terms of selected persono-demographic variables was determined. These variables are age, sex, civil status, position, highest educational attainment, and civil service eligibility, number of years in service, employment status and average monthly income. The results revealed the respondents are generally young, and female. Majority are single, and all of them possess a BS degree, the minimum requirement for teaching. Not one is a full-fledge master's degree holder although a number have earned units in graduate school. Not many have civil service eligibilities. At best, the respondents have been connected with the institution for about 9 years, and have attained permanent status. Many have also expressed their desire to study in graduate school. The activities the respondents have participated in earlier were also determined. It may be said that such activities form part of an unstructured faculty development program. Activities participated in were reported by respondents along the following areas: Spiritual / Personal Development, Professional Development (Degree and Non-degree), Psycho-Social / Cultural/ Physical Development and Community Reach-out. The activities the respondents would want included in the structured faculty development were also determined. There was a close semblance between the activities the respondents want to be included in the program, and those which they have engaged in earlier. The results of this survey formed part of the content of the program. A faculty development program was therefore developed using the survey results as inputs. A plan for evaluation specifically the content, input, process, product (CIPP) model is also suggested. The program focuses development on the four areas mentioned earlier. Appropriate activities or strategies that will carry out the corresponding objectives are planned and detailed out. The time frame, the budget, and the evaluation scheme corresponding to each activity are also specified. The program has been recommended for tryout, implementation and support. _u |
