_b _b _c _aThe study used the descriptive method to determine the existing conditions at the time of research with the questionnaire as the tool. This was conducted for gathering data in seven cities in Seoul, Korea, among 700 physically-able retirees or elderly with ages ranging from 54 to 71 years and above. The respondents either live with their families, relatives, in a home for the elderly alone, or at a center. The study looked into the problems of the respondents and the support extended to them by the government. These were classified as psychological, economic, environmental, education and social aspects. Among the problems mentioned were psychological, economic and social problems. These ranged from stress due to loss of spouse and living alone, low finances and financial benefits, climate change, inadequate housing and access to transportation. Government support was extended always like health insurance, hospital benefits, discounts on drugs and transportation and transportation allowance. They never had any support along education like transportation livelihood skills, physical fitness, lifelong education and independent living. The computed coefficient of correlation revealed that problems encountered and government support were mostly not related at .05 level. The computed r was higher than the expected p-value. The null hypothesis was accepted. Therefore no relationship exists between the problems encountered and the support extended, However, there was significant relationship between the economic problems and government support, thus, the hypothesis was rejected. There is no relationship between the problems encountered and the support received or extended as regards psychological, educational, environmental and social aspects. An enhanced health care program was prepared, and hopes that the suggestions given are implemented for a better or improved program for this group of physically-able elderly. _u |
