_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: The participation of 1,860 students, faculty and alumni from 31 Level II and Level II accredited nursing education programs provided the data needed for this methodological study. Conducted in the last quarter of 1995, 76 indicators of quality nursing education programs were initially identified and put together in a checklist. The participants responded to this checklist and indicated the degree by which specific items could be an indicator of quality. Each item was rated using a 5-point scale, where 5 means Excellent Indicator, and, 1 means Poor Indicator. Applying relevant statistical processes 9e.g., means, factor analysis, correspondence analysis, chi-square deviations) on the research data, 64 items from the original checklist merited to be included in the final form of the Quality Enhancement Model (QEM). On the basis of the results of the various procedures cited earlier, the QEM was found to be a valid and reliable tool to measure the quality of nursing education programs. Recommendations are made for the wider use and application of the QEM, particularly by the CHED in its efforts to authenticate and ensure the high quality of tertiary education, including nursing education.
