_aABSTRACT: The researcher's objective in this study was to find out the significant relationship of mental ability and interpersonal relations of the Children in Conflict with the Law, and to find the difference in terms of total relation index and socio-demographic factors. Using the standardized tests: Standard Progressive Matrices to assess the mental ability of the respondents and Assessment of Interpersonal Relations (AIR) to evaluate the level of interpersonal relations of the respondents with their parents, peers, and teachers. Socio- Demographic Questionnaire was used to determine the personal information of respondents. There were 100 respondents whose age ranges from 12-18 years and who have committed offenses described as punishable by the law. To measure the relationship between socio-demographic factors and interpersonal relations; mental ability; demographic profile; and mental ability and interpersonal relations, Pearson r was used. However, for the parents' marital status, Kendall Tau b was used to show its relationship with interpersonal relations and mental ability. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was utilized to test the difference between Total Relation Index and Socio-demographic factors. Most of the respondents are 17 years old: have reached years 1 and 2 level in high school; have been staying in the institution for 1 week to 6 months; their parents are still living together; parents' economic status fall under Below Average level; most of them have committed grave offenses; and first timers of offense commitment. Most of the respondents have Very Low Average (VLA) mental ability and they have Average Relations (AR) with their mothers, fathers, male and female peers; and Moderately Positive Relations (MPR) with their teachers. For socio demographic factors and interpersonal relations, there are low positive correlations between educational attainment and male peers relation; age and male peers' relations; and a low negative correlation between types of offense committed and mother relations. There is a significant relationship between mental ability and socio-demographic factors; particularly a low positive correlation with mental ability and length of stay; mental ability and age; mental ability and type of offense; and mental ability and educational attainment. There is a significant relationship with low positive correlation between mental ability and teacher relation. There is a significant difference between total relation index and age. From the above findings the researcher recommended the following activities to help the Children in Conflict with the Law: The institution (Molave Youth Homes) must be provided with the results of the AIR and IQ tests; sensitivity trainings can also be conducted by the psychologists and other paraprofessionals; spiritual and moral reformation must be provided for them to develop awareness of their actions as referenced with the lessons which has taken place from their previous actions; values development programs must be intensified on the part of the respondents; and future researchers may conduct similar studies using female respondents from other institutions.
