_aABSTRACT: This descriptive research was undertaken to determine the emotional intelligence of the respondents using the self-inventory questionnaire developed by the researcher. Specifically, it will answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the emotional intelligence of the respondents under the different aspects? 2. Is there a significant difference between and among the mean scores of the respondents under the different aspects? 3. Is there a significant difference between and among the mean scores of the respondents when grouped according to: a. Age b. Years in service c. Civil status d. With/without children? The findings of the study are as follows: 1. The seafarers of NYK-Fil Ship Management and Dolphin Ship Management, Inc. have High Emotional Intelligence. They got High Rating on the Family Aspect, High on Social Aspect, Very High on Occupational Aspect and High on Personal Aspect. They are capable of finishing their contracts in time. 2. There is a significant difference in the mean scores of the respondents between and among the Social and Occupational Aspects. There is a significant difference in the mean scores of the respondents between among the Social and Personal Aspects. There is a significant difference in the mean scores of the respondents between and among the Occupational and Personal Aspects. There is no significant difference in the mean scores of the respondents between and among the Family and Social Aspects. 3. There is a significant difference between and among the mean scores of the respondents when grouped according to age, years in service, civil status and with/without children. The findings of the study led to the following conclusions: 1. The self-inventory questionnaire is composed of 40 items categorized under the four dimensions: family, social , occupational and social. 2. The questionnaire were through the process of face validation by four experts. 3. The profile of emotional intelligence of the respondents is High on the Family Aspect, High on Social Aspect, Very High on Occupational Aspect and High on Personal Aspect. 4. There is a significant difference between and among the mean scores of the respondents under the four aspects. 5. There is a significant difference between and among the mean scores of the respondents when grouped according to age, years in service, civil status and with/without children. Based on the findings and conclusion the following recommendations are offered: 1. That the said inventory questionnaire will still be undergoing further development such as factor analysis and content validation before it can be included in the set of psychological test given to the new applicants of NYK-Fil Ship Management, Inc. and Dolphin Ship Management, Inc. 2. That other aspects of emotions can be included in the questionnaire such as physical, and health, mental and spiritual aspects of behavior. 3. That the future researcher in the same topic includes seafarers from other manning agencies. 4. That a crew morale and welfare program for improving emotional intelligence of seafarers maybe patterned to the self-inventory questionnaire focusing on the family and occupational aspects. The program may include incentives or performance bonus, excellence awards, compassionate leave and the opportunity for family members to ho onboard the ship.
