_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: The study determined the levels of values orientation of PLM students in relation to leadership. It sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the personal profile of the students in terms of: a) gender b) ordinal positions c) parents' educational attainment d) high school diploma obtained from e) course in PLM f) organization currently affiliated in g) number of years involved as officers/ member 2. What is the level of values orientation of the students? 3. What is the leadership profile of these respondents? 4. What significant relationship exists between the personal profile variables and each of the following: a) Values Orientation b) Leadership Profile 5. Is there a significant correlation between the respondents' values orientation and leadership profile? HYPOTHESES: The following null hypotheses were tested at .05 level of significance. 1. No significant relationship exists between the personal profile variables and each of the following: a) Values orientation b) Leadership profile 2. There is no significant relationship between the respondents' values orientation and leadership profile. METHODOLOGY: The descriptive method using the sample survey was employed in this study. PLM was the research locale. The convenience sampling technique was used in selecting the students/ respondents. The samples included 125 students from each year level from 2nd year to 5th year. The VAS-F and the LOQ were used. Data were treated using percentage, means, standard deviation, chi-square and Pearson product moment of correlation. SUMMARY OF FINDINGS Students have very high regard for the values of Discipline and Hardwork, Integrity and Accountability and Moral Responsibility, and are also highly committed to Public Interest. Most of the students have an average level of leadership in both structure and consideration orientation. No significant relationship exists between gender and the values orientation of PLM students, as well as with ordinal position and place where students obtained secondary education. No significant relationship was found between the students' membership in organizations and their values orientation. CONCLUSIONS: The respondents have high level of values orientation in terms of discipline and hardwork, integrity and accountability, moral responsibility and commitment to public interest. They have average leadership in terms of structure and consideration orientation. The values orientation in terms of commitment to public interest tends to increase with the increasing level of educational attainment of parents. The students' structure-leadership and consideration-leadership are positively and negatively related, respectively, to integrity and accountability, moral responsibility and commitment to public interest. RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Encourage students to become members of organizations. 2. Integrate Values Education in the different subjects 3. Encourage more student involvement in extension services or mission work. 4. Faculty member and PLM Community should live their positive values. 5. PLM should help in a Continuing Parent Education. 6. Conduct continuing values study. _u |
