_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: This study determined the work stress and burnout dimensions as determinants of teaching performance among academic personnel of Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros, Manila. The descriptive-correlational method of research was employed in this study using the non-random technique, specifically, purposive sampling. The weighted mean, frequency and percentage were used to describe the data gathered and the chi-square was utilized to determine the correlation between the dependent and independent variables. Results revealed that majority of the respondents were young adults, married, and with graduate units. A large portion of the academic personnel obtained very satisfactory teaching performance, and have average work stress level and very high personal accomplishment. Significant relationships were obtained between work status and teaching performance of the academic personnel and between work stress and burnout dimensions of the academic personnel. No significant relationship was established between sociodemographic variables and each of the burnout dimensions, between teaching performance and work stress, between each of the burnout dimensions and the variables civil status, age and educational attainment. This means that generally, the academic personnel were found to be efficient, competent and motivated to teach, they are functioning normally and are able to adapt to their current situations. This further indicates that majority of the academic personnel are experiencing eustress (good stress). Since the respondents have average work stress they are not likely to experience burnout at this point. It is recommended that administrators should continue to initiate in-school or outdoor activities where teachers can develop bonding and interact freely with their colleagues. Moreover, scholarships, more incentives and additional benefits be given to the academic personnel who have been getting very high performance rating so they would be more inspired to perform their tasks well. The same study should be conducted in the future to validate findings. _u |
