_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: Developing thinking skills and delivering the subject matter at the same time pose a challenge to educators. Likewise, as the role of the students is changed from that of a passive learner to being the center of the learning process, the role of the teacher is now more of a facilitator of learning. With this paradigm shift, an alternative method such as the modular approach could respond to this predicament. In this study, modules on selected topics in Physics were constructed with the development of critical thinking skills as the focus. The modules were validated by experts and peers and were used by the students. The findings of the study revealed that the modules have features that may develop critical thinking skills among the users. The modules are provided with puzzler activities and the learning activities involve application of thinking skills. The table of specifications showed that the multiple-choice type questions are anchored in the progression of thinking skills covering knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, and evaluation domains. The results of the item analysis on the pre-tests showed that the majority of items are relatively good items and moderately discriminating. The experts and peers agreed that the modules had satisfied the criteria and its significance tested at 0.05 level of significance with a grand mean and verbal interpretation on the following Content (4.69 - Much), Technical and Organization Component (4.37 - Much); Language Component (4.54 - Very Much) and Media Component (4.42 - Much). Both the validators and the students agreed on the acceptability of the modules. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that the developed and validated modules be used as supplementary materials in the teaching of concepts in Physics and in the development of critical thinking, and for learning difficulty remediation. Teachers should develop learning materials like modules in their own area of specialization following the methodology presented in this study. The Division of City Schools, Manila through its school board initiates efforts to support the mass production of the developed and validated learning modules in Physics. _u |
