_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: Resource allocation involves building a timetable for courses such that room and faculty will be assigned properly and that there will no conflict in the schedule of classes, students, rooms and faculty. There are many variations to this problem, including inclusion of faculty constraints and room constraints. The study aims to develop a tool in Allocating the Academic Resources of the College of Engineering and Technology of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila which can optimize the room utilization and accurately assign Faculty Members. Moreover, the proponent formulated a model that allocates subject to room taking into consideration the year level, course and time slice (slots allotted per course per year). Also, this assigns subjects to a particular faculty member taking into consideration the Field of Expertise, Seniority and Time Availability. The formulation of the resource allocation problem and solutions uses the following information about the courses (number of sections, year level, faculty member teaching the course, time at which the course can be taught), list of desired student courses, and the number of rooms available in which to schedule the subjects. Based on the analysis on the current set-up, the researcher formulated the following problems: A. How the college will adequately use the existing methods in order to maximize the room utilization and to minimize the to be announced or TBA room schedule? B. How the College will effectively use the strategies in assigning the faculty members to their respective subjects? C. How to easily and accurately produce reports like Room Plotting, Course Scheduling, Schedule of Faculty Members and other reports that the College needed? Likewise a computer-based system was developed to authenticate the applications of the design. The method applies the concept of Assignment Problem, Simulation Modeling, Priority Scheduling, Round-Robin Scheduling Algorithm, Greedy Algorithm, the Constraint Logic Programming and Genetic Algorithm. Majority of the ideas were patterned from simulation modeling. Simulation modeling is a method that is best suited for complex problems that involve many interacting variables and relationships. The researcher, based on thorough study, devise a scheme to picture out the flow to maximize the rooms of the College of Engineering and Technology and to minimize the to be announced or TBA rooms. Also, the researcher wants to develop a methodology that will properly assign faculty members to their respective subjects considering the following criteria: Proficiency of the subjects being taught, Seniority (Priority) or number of years in service and Time Availability. Lastly, the researcher seeks to create a system that automates both methodologies mentioned and generates the following reports easily and accurately: Course Offering, Schedule of Faculty Members, Schedule of Classes, Room Plotting and Room Utilization. Based on the simulation and through the use of the Academic Resource Allocation System developed, the following conclusions are drawn: 1. The rooms assigned to the College of Engineering and Technology were maximized and the to be announced or TBA rooms were minimized. In other words, Engineering subjects were scheduled and plotted. 2. It is difficult to allocate subjects to faculty members if both Proficiency of the subject being taught and the Time Availability will be considered. 3. Considering the faculty member's chosen time availability will not yield to optimal result but imposing a standard rule or procedure and using the flexibility of the system will give the user a solution that is more close to the optimum solution. 4. In comparing the result of the teaching assignment of the full-time faculty member generated by the system and to the existing teaching assignment, the outcome is close to optimum solution. 5. The system was not able to allocate all Engineering subjects to CET Faculty members because some part-time faculty members were not included. 6. The Academic Resource Allocation System will help the College of Engineering and Technology in easily and accurately producing the reports such as Course Offering, Schedule of Faculty Members, Schedule of Faculty Member, Schedule of Classes, Room Plotting and Room Utilization. _u |
