_b _b _c _aABSTRACT: The study aimed to provide a virtualization design for the IT operations of National Bank of Abu Dhabi. Specifically, it aimed to determine the specific requirements of the company for virtualization and its functionalities. The researcher used action research in obtaining the specific requirements of the company migrating to a virtual environment. A series of tests had been conducted to assess the high availability, rapid provisioning, and CPU utilization of using physical and virtual servers. The researcher identified the VMware v-Sphere firmware that would be utilized in a virtual environment. The study found out that the tolerance capacity of the firmware showed a higher availability during deployment process. A highly significant mean difference of more than 100 minutes had been revealed using virtual server compared to a physical server. Since virtual infrastructure is in there already, server requisition can be done in a minute rather than waiting for days to be delivered. This, the VMware technology offered a rapid provisioning compared to non-virtualization. The CPU utilization rate during virtualization showed a highly significant increase of more than 8% compared to before virtualization. The cost of ownership using virtual server had manifested a savings of almost 15% compared to cost of ownership using physical server. The study concluded that the design using the VMware technology satisfied the company's requirements in migrating to a virtual environment in terms of business continuity, better usage of their physical resources and reduction in cost. The researcher recommended further enhancement of the firmware specifications should be studied to optimize the IT operations of the company. _u |
