_aABSTRACT: The study focused on the Emotional Stability and Sociability of the Users and Non-users of Internet Relay Chat measured by the 16 Personality Factor 5th Edition Test among selected students of Far Eastern University. Specifically, the researcher tested if there was a significant relationship between the respondents' profile variables such as age, gender, course, frequency of use, and number of chat mates and their level of emotional stability and sociability as revealed by the 16 PF Questionnaire 5th Edition. The study employed descriptive, comparative method in assessing the relationship between the emotional stability and sociability of the users and non-users of Internet relay chat. In undertaking the study, a total of 200 respondents from Far Eastern University were involved. The researcher utilized two types of instrument - the 16 Personality Factor 5th Edition Test and a Personal Profile sheet in obtaining information. All the data were encoded and entered into the matrix software Statistical program for Social Sciences for statistical treatment. For the descriptive analysis of data, the frequency and percentage were used specifically in dealing with the nominal data generated from the demographic profile variables such as age, gender, course, frequency of use as determined by the number of chat mates, number of hours, and number of days. To ascertain the relationship of the demographic variables and the trait variables, the Chi-Square Test of Association was used. To determine the relationship between gender and the trait variables, the Pearson's Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient was used. The t-test for independent samples was utilized to determine the difference between the respondents and the level of Emotional Stability and Sociability as revealed by the 16 PF 5th Edition test. It was found out that majority of the respondents are within the age bracket 15 - 21. Generally, there was a greater number of female than male respondents. For the Non-user of IRC, majority of the respondents belong to the psychology department. All U sers of IRC gathered for the study majored in Computer Science. The study found out that the demographic profile variables included in the study were not significantly related to the respondents' level of emotional stability and sociability. Also, it was concluded that there was no correlation between the respondents' gender and their level of Emotional Stability and Sociability. In the light of the foregoing data, it is recommended that other variables not included in the study must be considered to further find out what really influences the behavior of Users and Non-users of Internet Relay Chat. More so, the study can give reminders to the avid Users of Internet Chat on the probability of changes with the level of their Emotional Stability and Sociability as they engage in Internet Relay Chat. A parallel research or study can also be conducted using similar, additional, or different variables to further come up with a wider perspective of the topic under study.
