_aABSTRACT : Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the Philippines and in the world. There are several ways of earning a point in basketball such as through free throws, jump shots, set shots and lay ups. This study compared two types of jump shots involve shooting the ball when the player has taken off from the floor in a vertical position without horizontal movement of the body while in floating jump shot, players jump off the floor and move the body horizontally forward while shooting the ball in mid-air. These two methods were compared in terms of shooting the ball in mid-air. These two methods were compared in terms of shooting effectiveness and shooting effectiveness in the three shooting areas of a basketball court. Results showed that the vertical jump shot is more effective when the shooters have limited visual contact of the backboard while floating jump shot was more effective when the shooters have better vision of the ring and the backboard
