This strategic management paper covered Goldenknight Construction Corporation started on year 2005. Currently, GCC is offering its products in the construction industry. The company's primary goal is to adapt to the demands of the market and trends in the industry. The management does not use strategic management concepts in making decisions. They are more of a reactive than a proactive firm.
This paper evaluated GCC's current vision and mission statement and proposed a revised version using David's essential components and characteristics. It should be mentioned that the results of Porter's Five Forces Model shows that there is a strong rivalry in the steel fabricator industry which in turn exerts downward pressure on the industry's growth. This has even led to increase the level of competition in terms of customer satisfaction, technology and product differentiation, and pricing schemes. Amidst the strong rivalry in competition, GCC seems to have a moderate competitive position as indicated in the results of CPM with a weighted score of 2.53. This was evaluated through a comparative study with two major competitors of GCC in terms of the identified critical success factors highlighting the competitive advantages of each company.
Based on the EFE, GCC has an average responsiveness to threats and opportunities as indicated by a total weighted score of 2.75. The major significant threats identified by the researcher to GCC include the interest rates due to its effect on taxes having the highest level of responsiveness to its weight. On the other hand, opportunities that GCC should take advantage of the fact that the construction and infrastructure is one of the main drivers of the economy. Based on the IFE, GCC has a total weighted score of 2.60 that shows an above average internal position. The company's weaknesses include financial performance in terms of high cost of service. The researcher presented information on common size and trend analysis for both the income statement and balance sheet including several additional financial ratios to better understand the financial performance of GCC.
The matrices such as SWOT-TOWS, Space, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Internal-External (|E), Grand Strategy and Quantitative Strategic Planning are presented to show the results and serve as the basis for the recommended strategies.
