ABSTRACT: Families often support schools by contributing to fundraising efforts and offering volunteer help. But what kinds of family involvement contribute most to student learning? The author describes strategies that teachers have used to build meaningful, reciprocal partnerships with ethnically diverse families. These strategies support student learning by building respectful relationships, engaging families in supporting learning at home, and addressing cultural differences.
